My daughter Lauren's Painting of a Mermaid will be contributed to the Yes Prep School's Silent "Art In Action" Charity Benefit Auction in Houston on May 11, 2007. The proceeds will support 15 Texas high school students and teachers participating in Peace Corps projects in West Africa this summer. The Peace Corps has invited them to the villages of Wamfie and Kranka, Ghana. They will help build a community center for youth, many of whom suffer from or have lost parents to AIDS. They will help build homes, create sustainable alternative livelihood projects, and conduct health and HIV/AIDS prevention classes. www.yesprep.org

....my "Go Rodeo" Boot at the circle drive of Sam Houston Memorial on a gorgeous day.... I was told by an Austin tourist that Bob Hope once stayed in a hotel across the street overlooking this park and with the reflection pond, monument, statue, gorgeous trees - that he thought it was one of the most beautiful scenes he had ever seen. I'd have to agree as people played frizbee, soccer, were rolling down hills... all the children were at play... a beautiful crisp breeze and laughter filled the air as Lauren and I goofed off around town.

It was a real experience painting these boots this year...
I've always been bummed that I didn't get to paint a cow during the cow parade in Houston, so when I heard of the call for entries with the Rodeo Boots - I jumped at the chance... and encouraged my daughter to submit a design too... A few boots later, we both look back and shiver thinking of painting in our 40 degree garage - brrrr! We both had like 2-3 layers of clothes on - we put it all to jazz and it was all good... I'm proud of you Lauren - we'll have more fun as we paint more together.

Organ Donor Hero T-shirts and Gifts
This post is dedicated to my two cousins, Mr. Cosme Escobedo and Mr. Arthur Sandoval Jr..... Cos is awaiting a kidney transplant, and Arthur Jr. - well, sadly, I just lost him this month. I love you Cos, and I'm praying that everything will turn out okay and that you will get better real soon. They were the inspiration for my design of "Be someone's hero - Be an organ donor." They have both made me a better person. I love you guys.
